While not specifically plastic related, I do want to recommend a book that I recently read - "Hundred Dollar Holiday" by Bill McKibben. Bill McKibben is a best selling author and the founder of 350.org, an environmental organization. In "Hundred Dollar Holiday", Mr. McKibben presents a history of our holiday traditions and why we might want to rethink our Christmas practices in order to enjoy a more meaningful, relaxed holiday. While he admits that this would have a positive environmental impact (think of all that packaging), that is not his main focus. Instead, the advocates focusing more people and connections and less on shopping. I have to say that one of the parts that I loved the best was the suggestion that we feed birds and other wildlife on Christmas Day because all creatures should have a more more joyful day!
