The Bulk Bin and Refillable Cups

I'm a big advocate of buying from the bulk bin and I applaud the people that have refillable cups from their favorite coffee shop but due to COVID-19, it is time to take a break from these habits. Now, I've always wondered about how coffee shops take precautions for those refillable cups - who is to say that the cup is clean and free of germs? If the cup touches the spout, which I am sure happens, hasn't the shop expose every customer down the line? I don't know but it has made me wonder when I enter a Dunkin, Starbucks, or Pete's. Now, I personally love the bulk bin and try to use them whenever possible but at this time, I'm taking a break. I just don't know who has touched the ladle and left germs or accidentally breathed into the bin. I will continue to try to reduce my use of plastic but for the good of my health during this pandemic, I'm going to take a break from the bulk bin. Here is an article Treehugger about how the Coronavirus will affect the zero waste movement - perhaps the fact that people are not commuting or going to the office will offset the impact of people avoiding refillable containers and the bulk bin aisle.
