I recently ordered some items from Nuts.com. I thought that the products were great and would definitely order from them again based on the quality of their products. BUT, and this is a big but, I discovered that the cool, resealable bags that their products come in are not recyclable or compostable. According to the customer service rep "As an environmentally conscious company, we are working hard to find a strong enough recyclable material that can be recyclable to replace them; we're still on the search for a suitable replacement". It is hard for me to imagine that they couldn't find a bag / pouch that is recyclable. I have looked for such bags, and they exist. If Nuts.com was truly "environmentally conscious" they would modify their requirements to be able to source a perfectly fine package that is recyclable. Needless to say, my response to the comment was "While I love your products, I am also on a mission to reduce my use of plastic. Given that these aren’t even recyclable, I think that I will have to forgo ordering anything but the essentials (pine nuts for the bird) and go with the bulk aisle at some local grocery store." Sorry, Nuts.com, not good enough.
