An article in the most recent issue of Health magazine discusses the impact of clothing on the environment. The article, which is called "Wear What You Have" provides some interesting facts: we keep our clothing items half as long as we did 15 years ago, 3/5 of all clothing produced goes into incinerators or landfills, and we are literally wearing fossil fuels due to the fact that most synthetic fabrics use petroleum based fibers. The article suggests that we should all think about wearing what we have, swapping with friends, using consignment shops, and seeking out ethically manufactured clothing. From a plastic perspective, one should look for non-synthetic fabric garments because will introduce less micro-plastics into your environment. Note: unfortunately, a link to the article is not available.
